Blue Springs Jujitsu offers training in both Japanese Jujitsu through the ShinGiTai Association and Brazillian Jiu-jitsu through the Renato Tavares Association. "Jujitsu" means "gentle art", meaning that a practitioner will use their opponents strength against them and will use their stronger muscles against their opponents weaker muscles. Our Jujitsu Program includes grappling techniques "Katame Waza", throwing techniques "Nage Waza", and Striking technigues "Atemi Waza". Jujitsu was used by the samurai warriors of ancient Japan on the battlefield for survival.
Today, jujitsu remains one of the most effective and practical martial arts in the world.
Ground fighting plays a large role in Jujitsu class. We teach you to become technicians on the mat by using your wits and fighting spirit, not just brawn. Our program incorporates a complimentary blend of Japanese and Brazilian theories and techniques and systematically teaches students how to use these time-honored techniques of self-defense. Our school offers all the tools to be a competitive mixed martial artist as well. This program is for Adults Only.
Judo is a martial art that was derived directly from Jujitsu.
(Judo master Mike Hillen Grappling a bear...He was not thrown!) It was founded by Dr. Jigoro Kano in 1882. This art focuses on
throwing and grappling techniques with its principals being to utilize
maximum efficiency and mutual benefit and welfare. Dr. Kano created
this art as a sport that would allow practitioners to practice in a fun
way and perfect their skills in competition. Although Judo has not
shared in main stream popularity in the United States, it is a required
class in Japanese schools and its popularity throughout Europe is
tremendous. In 1964 Judo was included in the Olympic games and still is
to this day. Our school offers Judo programs for both Kids (6-12) and Adults.
Our Kickboxing Program teaches Jun Fan Gung Fu (The name given to Bruce Lee's Fighting Method when he first taught Gung Fu in Seattle), which is a Chinese style of kickboxing that includes nerve strikes and kicks below the waist,as well as the traditional targets. Our program provides an excellent form of self-defense utilizing hands and feet as weapons. Simplicity (do what is necessary to accomplish the task with the most efficient means possible) and directness (the shortest route to the target without any preparatory, or telegraphic, set-up movements) are key components to this style. This program is for Adults Only.
Blue Springs Jujitsu offers a great program for our youngest students called Little Dragons. In this class Kids Ages 3-5 get the opportunity to learn the basics of Jujitsu and Judo while improving their balance, dexterity and overall fitness. This is a great way to build confidence in your young child!
